Sheger FM 102.1 presents itself on its own About page as the first private FM radio station in Ethiopia, saying it began broadcasting on መስከረም 23 ቀን 2000 ዓ.ም in the Ethiopian calendar and was set up by people with long radio experience. It states its aim as being a true voice of the people free of partisanship, following ethical journalism, and succeeding as an "infotainment (Information & Entertainment)" station open to all and siding with none. Twenty-five programmes each hold their own page: መቆያ, እንዳልክ እና ማህደር, የአለም ቋንቋ, ሽገር ስፖርት, የጨዋታ እንግዳ, ጤና ውዴ, የምሽት ወሬዎች, አደረች አራዳ, ሸገር ካፌ, አፍሪካውያን, ሽገር ሼልፍ, ወይ አዲስ አበባ, ሽገር 991, የጃዝ ጨዋታ, ትዝታ ዘ አራዳ, አንዳንድ ነገሮች, ማምሻ, ሸገር ማለዳ, ስንክሳር, ከቤት እስከ ከተማ, የጥበብ መንገድ, ሽገር አውቶ, ይመችሽ, ለዛ and ZEMEN etc. Only two print airtimes in text: ሸገር ማለዳ runs ከሰኞ እሰከ ዓርብ ማለዳ 12፡30 and ends at 2፡40, and ሸገር ካፌ airs ዘወትር እሁድ ከ3:00-5:00 ሰዓት in two parts. Those figures are reproduced as the station prints them, on the Ethiopian twelve hour clock.

On shegerfm.com every navigation label, every news story, every programme title and every programme description is written in Amharic script: the menu reads ዋና ገጽ, ወሬ, መሰናዶዎች, የጊዜ ሰሌዳ, ከእኛ ጋር ያስተዋውቁ, ስለ እኛ, መገናኛችን, and the station's own About page at /ስለእኛ is Amharic throughout, describing itself as የመጀመሪያው የኢትዮጵያ የግል ኤፍ ኤም ሬዲዮ ጣቢያ. Its 25 programme pages carry Amharic titles (ሸገር ማለዳ, ሸገር ካፌ, መቆያ, ለዛ and so on) and Amharic descriptions with Amharic airtimes. The only English on the site is a short self-description beside its own video embeds. The station is not multilingual in any material way, so a single code is right and am is it. |
What we found and did not publish
Material that would have made this page fuller, and was refused. A page with five named presenters looks better than a page with none even when the five are a website theme's demonstration content, and the difference is invisible to a reader. So it is recorded here instead.
