Dharmadurai (2016)

Dharmadurai is a gifted doctor who now spends his days drunk, an embarrassment to his brothers, who want him out of the way. Only his mother still believes in him. When he leaves home, the film moves back through his medical college years and his friendships with two classmates, Subhashini and Stella, and his bond with Anbuselvi, the village girl he was meant to marry, slowly revealing what broke him. Seenu Ramasamy, who earlier directed Vijay Sethupathi in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, gives the film a gentle, humane tone and a strong rural setting near Madurai. Yuvan Shankar Raja's soundtrack was a big success, and Vairamuthu won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics for the song "Enda Mayakkama".
