In Mumbai's Parsi community, a slick self-appointed spiritual leader is gaining followers with his strict, conservative sermons, and a newspaper editor is determined to expose him. Caught in the middle are two families and their children, among them young Xerxes, a football-obsessed boy who idolises Zinedine Zidane, the Zizou of the title, and dreams of meeting him. Screenwriter Sooni Taraporevala, known for writing Salaam Bombay! and Mississippi Masala, made her directing debut with this affectionate, eccentric portrait of her own community, casting many members of her family. It won the National Film Award for best film on family welfare, and Boman Irani and John Abraham add star power.
