As a boy, Aathi survived the massacre of his family by ruthless men led by a powerful villain. Grown up and living under a different identity, he becomes a student in Chennai while quietly preparing his revenge, and the people he targets begin to fall one by one before they understand who is hunting them. Trisha plays the woman he falls in love with, and Prakash Raj and Sai Kumar the men on the other side. Aathi is a Tamil remake of the Telugu hit Athanokkade (2005), starring Kalyan Ram, and it reunited Vijay and Trisha after Ghilli. It was directed by Ramana, with songs by Vidyasagar.
