Vinayagam and his four younger brothers are quick to fight and slow to forgive, and they have stayed single so nobody can split the family. When Vinayagam falls for Kopperundevi, his brothers secretly help the romance along, but her family abhors violence, so he tries to hide what he is. Visiting her village, he discovers that her gentle father has deadly enemies, and that some fights cannot be avoided. Veeram opened on the same Pongal day in 2014 as Vijay's Jilla, and its success began Ajith's run of films with director Siva. It was later remade in Telugu as Katamarayudu (2017) with Pawan Kalyan and in Hindi as Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) with Salman Khan.
