Shanti Kranti ("peace and revolution") follows an upright police officer who refuses to bend before the influential men behind a criminal empire, and whose crusade puts his career and the people he loves in danger. V. Ravichandran made it as an ambitious multilingual production, shooting it at the same time in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi with different leading men: he played the lead in Kannada, Nagarjuna in Telugu and Rajinikanth in the Tamil and Hindi versions, with Juhi Chawla as the heroine across the board. It was one of the most expensive Indian films of its day and was known for its grand sets. Hamsalekha composed the music. It did not repay its huge budget, but remains a curiosity for fans of its stars.
