The carefree son of a wealthy businessman does not believe in marriage. To please his father he agrees to wed a girl from an ordinary family, but secretly makes her sign a contract that the marriage will end after one year. Over that year her dignity, patience and goodness slowly change him, but the contract and a family crisis threaten to destroy what they have built. Priyamaanavale ("Beloved") is a remake of the Telugu film Pavitra Bandham (1996), and it gave Vijay a softer, family-friendly role at a time when he was moving towards bigger star vehicles. Simran's performance and S. A. Rajkumar's songs were well received, and singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam appears as the hero's father.
