Vidya and Jyoti have taught at the same Mumbai school for years and are adored by their students. When an ambitious new principal takes over with plans to make the school more profitable and image-conscious, she begins pushing out the older teachers, and Vidya is humiliated and forced out. The students, parents and Jyoti rally to her cause, and the fight to defend her becomes a public battle over what education is really for, ending in an unusual televised quiz contest. Chalk n Duster is a heartfelt drama about the commercialisation of schooling and the dignity of teachers, with Shabana Azmi and Juhi Chawla sharing the lead.
