Tulsidas is a 1954 Hindi devotional film directed by Harsukh Bhatt, telling the story of Goswami Tulsidas, the sixteenth-century poet-saint who wrote the Ramcharitmanas. Mahipal, the leading star of mythological and devotional films of the decade, plays Tulsidas, with Shyama as his wife, Ratnavali. The story follows the well-known legend in which Tulsidas, deeply attached to his wife, is rebuked by her and turns his love towards Lord Ram, beginning the spiritual journey that led to his great work. The film is built around bhajans and devotional songs, in the manner of the saint films of its era, and tells a story still widely known across north India.
