In the aftermath of the November 2008 attacks on Mumbai, a group of intelligence officers decide that if the planners cannot be brought to justice by law, they will be dealt with in secret. Their chosen instrument is Daniyal Khan, a former army officer living in disgrace, who is sent across London, America, Syria and finally Pakistan, with Nawaz, a former intelligence operative, at his side. Based on the novel Mumbai Avengers by journalist S. Hussain Zaidi, Phantom is a fast-paced espionage thriller that imagines a fictional revenge for a very real tragedy. Kabir Khan, coming off Bajrangi Bhaijaan, shot it in several countries, including Lebanon standing in for the Middle East. The film was banned in Pakistan on its release, and Pritam's song Afghan Jalebi became a hit.
