Rana Vikrama casts Puneeth Rajkumar as a tough police officer who is sent into a region terrorised by a gang protected by powerful politicians. As he takes them on, a second story unfolds about his earlier life and the woman he loved, which explains what drives him. The film mixes romance, family drama and long action set pieces in the mould of a full-scale Kannada star vehicle, with Adah Sharma and Anjali as the two heroines. Pavan Wadeyar, who had made the romantic hit Googly, here moved into all-out mass action, and V. Harikrishna's music added to its appeal for Puneeth's fans.
