Sanjana is engaged to Rahul, who goes to Paris on work and falls for a glamorous Frenchwoman of Indian origin, Nisha. Heartbroken, Sanjana, who is afraid of flying, gets on a plane to Paris to get him back, and on the way meets Shekhar, a rough-edged small-time crook who hides a stolen diamond necklace in her luggage. The two have to stay together, he to retrieve the necklace and she to reclaim her fiancé, and they slowly fall in love. The film is an Indian version of the Hollywood comedy French Kiss (1995) and was a success, helped by the real-life chemistry of Ajay Devgn and Kajol, who married in 1999. Jatin–Lalit's songs, including the title song and 'Ajnabi Mujhko Itna Bata', were hits.
