Kala Sona, "black gold", refers to opium, and the film is a curry western about the smugglers who trade in it. Feroz Khan plays a man who arrives in a remote hill region where a ruthless gang runs the opium business, and whose mission there is tied to personal vengeance; Prem Chopra and Danny Denzongpa are among the men he must face, and Parveen Babi, in one of her early roles, is the woman who catches his eye. Director Ravikant Nagaich, a former cinematographer, gives the film a stylish look with horse chases, gunfights and rugged outdoor locations. R. D. Burman's soundtrack is a highlight, especially Asha Bhosle's Sun Sun Sun Kasam Se, one of the most enduring dance songs of the decade.
