Ganesh is famously afraid of ghosts and refuses to go anywhere alone after six in the evening, which makes him the joke of his family. When they move into a new house, he begins to behave strangely, and it emerges that the restless spirit of Muni, a poor man wronged and killed by a powerful politician, has chosen him as the instrument of its revenge. Muni mixes slapstick comedy built on Ganesh's cowardice with horror and a strong revenge drama, with Rajkiran commanding as the spirit. It was the first film in Raghava Lawrence's hugely popular horror-comedy series, continued with Kanchana and its sequels; Kanchana was later remade in Hindi as Laxmii.
