Description

Vasu, an aspiring director in Hyderabad, makes his debut film with a story he believes is his own, only to be sued for copying the writings of Shyam Singha Roy, a radical Bengali writer from decades earlier who fought social evils. Searching for an explanation, Vasu is led back to Shyam's life in Bengal, his defiance of caste and orthodoxy, and his love for Maithreyi, a devadasi trapped in a temple system of exploitation. Shyam Singha Roy is a sweeping reincarnation romance that moves between present-day Hyderabad and period Bengal, with Nani in a dual role and Sai Pallavi's performance and dances widely praised. Mickey J. Meyer composed the music.
