1920 Bitwa Warszawska (2011)

In 1920 newly independent Poland is fighting for its survival against Soviet Russia, whose army is advancing on Warsaw. Jan, a young poet and cavalry officer, is engaged to Ola, a singer and actress in the capital's cabarets, but the war tears them apart: he is sent to the front and into mortal danger, while she volunteers in the defence of the city. Their story is woven into the wider history of the Battle of Warsaw, known in Poland as the Miracle on the Vistula, with Daniel Olbrychski as Marshal Józef Piłsudski. The film was directed by veteran Jerzy Hoffman, famous for his adaptations of Henryk Sienkiewicz's novels, and was the first Polish feature film shot in 3D, photographed by Sławomir Idziak, known for Black Hawk Down.
