1996 Dharmapuri (2022)

1996 Dharmapuri is a Telugu rural drama directed by Jagath, with Gagan Vihari and Aparna Devi in the lead roles. Set in a village in the mid-1990s, it tells the story of a young man and woman whose love is opposed by the people around them, and of how that opposition turns into violence. Like several recent Telugu films set in the villages of the past, it relies on real locations, local dialect and an unpolished, rooted style rather than star power. It is a small film, best for viewers who like village romances with a hard edge.
