Noor Roy Chaudhary is in her late twenties, sharp-tongued, perpetually single and frustrated that her editor keeps assigning her celebrity interviews instead of real news. When a chance encounter puts a disturbing story within her grasp, one involving the city's poorest people and powerful interests, she pursues it with more ambition than caution, and the consequences spill over into her friendships and her sense of who she is. Sonakshi Sinha carries the film in a rare contemporary, comic and self-deprecating role, with stand-up comedian Kanan Gill making his film debut as her best friend. The film is adapted from Saba Imtiaz's novel Karachi, You're Killing Me!, with the setting moved from Karachi to Mumbai, and much of its charm lies in its affectionate portrait of the city's streets, monsoons and newsrooms.
