Raj Goyal is a celebrated criminal lawyer who has never lost a case. When Sargam, a singer he admires, asks him to defend her childhood friend and mentor Tarang, a shy composer charged with killing a man, Raj takes the brief. Tarang seems incapable of violence, and as Raj digs into his past he finds a troubled childhood and a mind that may hide more than one person. The courtroom battle becomes a psychological duel. Deewangee was one of Anees Bazmee's rare turns from comedy to thriller, loosely inspired by the Hollywood film Primal Fear. Ajay Devgn's performance earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role, and Ismail Darbar's songs give the film a musical backdrop.
