A rugged man from a Karnataka village, played by Shiva Rajkumar, and a stylish, mysterious figure played by Sudeep end up on a collision course, with a trail of crime, a romance with a foreign-raised woman and a powerful man's secrets connecting them. The film keeps teasing its central question, spelt out in the title, until its final act. The Villain was one of the most expensive and most hyped Kannada films of its time, the first to bring Shiva Rajkumar and Sudeep together as leads, and it opened to huge crowds in October 2018. British actress Amy Jackson made her Kannada debut, Mithun Chakraborty appears in a key role, and Arjun Janya's songs were popular hits.
