Bunty and Chantu are broke, lazy students who have failed their exams more than once and would rather chase girls than study. To impress two rich classmates, they invent a glamorous lifestyle for themselves, and their lies multiply until they find themselves mixed up with a criminal gang and wanted by the police for a crime they did not commit. N. Chandra, known for gritty dramas such as Ankush and Tezaab, surprised audiences with this light-hearted youth comedy, which marked the screen debuts of Sharman Joshi and Sahil Khan. Made on a modest budget, it became a sleeper hit, and its success led to a sequel, Xcuse Me (2003), with the same pair.
