When their grandfather dies, Sowmya, Meenakshi and their mother are pushed out of the family estate in Chidambaram and move to Chennai to start over. Sowmya, the practical elder sister, hides her feelings for an aspiring film director who keeps promising to return, while the romantic Meenakshi, a singer, falls for a dashing businessman and ignores the quiet devotion of a gruff ex-army officer who lost a leg in war. The film transposes Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility into a contemporary South Indian setting with grace and humour. A. R. Rahman's score, including Enna Solla Pogirai, which won Shankar Mahadevan the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer, is among his most loved, and Ravi K. Chandran shot the songs in locations from Kerala to Scotland. The Telugu dub is Priyuralu Pilichindi.
