Avinash is a fiery, idealistic college student who writes about social injustice and refuses to chase money. Geetu, a classmate from a well-off family, admires his convictions and falls in love with him, and she leaves her comfortable home to marry him and share his simple life. But the pressures of rent, work and ambition gradually wear Avinash down, and Geetu begins to wonder whether the man she married still exists. Raman Kumar's quiet, perceptive film is one of the gems of early-1980s middle-cinema, with Farooque Shaikh and Deepti Naval, the most beloved screen couple of the time, at their best. The ghazal-based songs by Kuldeep Singh with Javed Akhtar's lyrics, especially "Tumko Dekha To Ye Khayal Aaya" sung by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh, and "Yun Zindagi Ki Raah Mein", are still widely loved.
