Raftaar Singh is the despair of his father in their Punjab village: cheerful, kind and allergic to work. Packed off to Goa to earn his keep, he takes a job guarding Sara, a fiery young woman from Romania who has come to India looking for her missing mother and is being hunted by a vicious gangster, Mark. She speaks no Hindi and he speaks no English, so Raftaar relies on the interpreter Emily, played with comic gusto by Lara Dutta. Prabhu Deva's film is a loud, colourful action comedy designed around Akshay Kumar's comic energy, with plenty of slapstick and stylised fight scenes. It was shot in Goa, Punjab and Romania, and is unconnected to Akshay's earlier Singh Is Kinng apart from the playful title.
