Shankar, a cook in Mumbai, makes the mistake of running off with a bag of money that belongs to a dangerous don. To escape, he joins a team of Indian doctors heading to Thailand and is soon passing himself off as one of them in Bangkok, despite knowing nothing about medicine. There he meets Jasmine, a Thai masseuse, and though they share no language, the two fall for each other, while the gangster's men close in. Bombay to Bangkok is a romantic comedy written and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the independent filmmaker behind Hyderabad Blues and Iqbal, and reunites him with his Iqbal star Shreyas Talpade. Shot on location in Thailand with Danish-Thai actress Lena Christensen, it builds much of its comedy on a romance that crosses a language barrier.
