Aasi is the son of a poor fisherman in a coastal village; Bebamma is the only daughter of Rayanam, the feared local strongman who values his family's prestige above everything. They have loved each other since childhood, and when their romance is discovered, they run away together, setting off a chain of events that tests how far love can go against caste, class and a father's pride. Uppena ("tidal wave") was a huge hit in 2021, the debut film of director Buchi Babu Sana and of both its leads, Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty. Devi Sri Prasad's songs, especially "Nee Kannu Neeli Samudram", were enormously popular, Vijay Sethupathi's Rayanam is chilling, and it won the National Film Award for Best Telugu Feature Film.
