During China's Warring States period, the tiny city of Liang lies in the path of a huge Zhao army and has only a few thousand people to defend it. It appeals for help to the Mohists, a school of thinkers who preach universal love and fight only in defence, and they send just one man: Ge Li, a brilliant tactician. He turns the city into a fortress, outwits the Zhao general Xiang Yanzhong in a contest of strategy, and wins the people's devotion, which makes the king of Liang fear him more than the enemy. Based on the Japanese manga Bokkō, the film is a thoughtful war epic about the cost of war. It brought together Hong Kong star Andy Lau and Korean actor Ahn Sung-ki, with music by Kenji Kawai.
