Geetha Rani arrives as headmistress of a run-down government school where teachers skip classes, students drift and local strongmen treat the campus as their own. She sets strict rules, brings teachers back into classrooms and takes on everyone who profits from the school's decline, from a rival private school owner to local politicians. Her tough methods earn her the nickname 'raatchasi' (demon) before they start to earn respect, and a mystery about her own past gradually comes into view. The film is a message-driven social drama with action touches, built around Jyothika's commanding performance, and part of the run of strong, woman-centred roles she took on after her return to films.
