Lav Kush (1967)

Lav Kush tells the Uttara Kanda, the closing part of the Ramayana. After Rama's return to Ayodhya, gossip about Sita's time in Ravana's captivity leads the king to send her away, and in the forest hermitage of the sage Valmiki she gives birth to twin sons, Lav and Kush. The boys grow up learning the Ramayana as a song, without knowing who their father is, until the day they meet Rama's army and Rama himself. Ashim Kumar plays Rama and Jayshree Gadkar, a favourite of Marathi and Hindi mythological films, plays Sita. It is a devotional film of the kind made for family viewing in the 1960s.
