Years after he brought Sakeena home from Lahore, Tara Singh lives a settled life in Punjab with his wife and their son Jeete, now a young man. As tension builds towards the 1971 war, Jeete crosses into Pakistan to look for his father, who is believed missing, and falls into the hands of an army general who has a long-standing grudge against Tara. To save his son, Tara must cross the border once more and face an entire army. Gadar 2 is the sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), with Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, the director's son, returning to their roles 22 years later. It became one of the biggest Hindi box-office hits of all time, and recreates two much-loved songs from the original, Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava and Main Nikla Gaddi Leke.
