Description

On 11 July 2006, bombs tore through seven suburban trains in Mumbai during the evening rush hour. Mumbai Meri Jaan follows five people in the days that follow: Nikhil, an environment-conscious executive who was on one of the trains; Rupali, a television reporter whose own family is struck by the tragedy; Tukaram Patil, a police constable on the verge of retirement, and his younger colleague; Suresh, an unemployed man whose fear and anger turn into suspicion of Muslims; and Thomas, a poor coffee vendor who feels invisible in the city. Their stories barely touch, but together they paint a portrait of a city's resilience and its wounds. Nishikant Kamat's film was widely praised for its restraint, and Paresh Rawal, Irrfan Khan and Kay Kay Menon's performances in particular are remembered as among their best.
