Ramabai was married to Bhimrao Ambedkar as a young girl, long before he became the architect of India's Constitution and the leader of the Dalit movement. This Marathi biographical film tells her story: years of hardship while he studied in America and Britain, the deaths of several of their children, her quiet sacrifices and the strength she gave him in his struggle against caste discrimination. It presents Ramabai, often called Ramai by Ambedkar's followers, as a figure of devotion and endurance in her own right. Nisha Parulekar plays Ramabai and Ganesh Jethe plays Ambedkar. It is a sincere, modestly made period drama and a tribute rather than a political history.
