Karuppan is a hot-headed, big-hearted young man in a Tamil village, famous for taming bulls at the local jallikattu. He wins a challenge that brings him to the notice of a well-to-do man, played by Pasupathy, and soon falls for that man's sister. The two marry, but a relative who had always hoped to marry her himself cannot accept the match and begins working in the shadows to drive the couple and the two families apart. Karuppan is a rural family drama with action, built on Vijay Sethupathi's earthy screen presence and on the jallikattu backdrop that was at the centre of public debate in Tamil Nadu in 2017. Bobby Simha plays the scheming relative, and D. Imman's songs suit the village setting. It released in September 2017.
