Description

Seventeen-year-old Rohan is expelled from his boarding school in Shimla and sent home to Jamshedpur, to a father he has not seen in years. Bhairav Singh is harsh, controlling and contemptuous of Rohan's dream of becoming a writer; he puts him to work in the family factory and enrols him in engineering classes. Rohan also discovers he has a little half-brother, Arjun, whose existence nobody told him about, and the two boys form a fragile bond under their father's rule. Vikramaditya Motwane's debut is one of the most admired coming-of-age films in Hindi cinema. It was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2010, the first Indian film in the festival's official selection in several years. Ronit Roy's chilling, career-changing performance and Amit Trivedi's songs are its other great strengths.
