Hari is a Malayali who lives with his family in a Bombay slum and wants nothing more than an ordinary life. When the violence of the city's gangs reaches his door, he fights back and, step by step, becomes a feared gangster himself, admired by the people around him and hunted by his rivals. Directed by Priyadarshan, better known at the time for comedies, Abhimanyu is one of the hard-edged Mohanlal crime dramas of the early 1990s, and it was shot partly on location in Bombay. Raveendran's music, especially the song 'Ramayana Kaatte', remains popular, and Geetha plays the woman Hari loves. Mohanlal's intense performance as the reluctant gangster is the main reason to watch.
