Neelakanta is a proud, powerful man in his village whose elder daughter runs away on the eve of her wedding. The man who helped the couple escape, a carefree young man named Krishna, is captured by Neelakanta's family and kept with them while they search. In their house Krishna comes to know the family from the inside, and he and the younger daughter, Meenakshi, slowly fall in love, under the eyes of a father whose pride has just been wounded. Parugu ("run") was director Bhaskar's follow-up to Bommarillu and shares its interest in fathers and their children, with Prakash Raj giving a powerful performance. Mani Sharma's songs were popular, and the film was later remade in Hindi as Heropanti (2014), Tiger Shroff's debut.
