Dharam Patni

Dharam Patni, "the lawful wife", is a Hindi family drama directed by Ramchandra Thakur, with Nirupa Roy and Mahipal in the lead and Durga Khote in support. Both leads were the reigning stars of devotional and mythological films in the 1950s, and this film carries over that world of virtue and sacrifice into a domestic setting, as a faithful wife faces suffering, suspicion and family conflict with patience and dignity. It is an old black-and-white melodrama of a kind that was a staple of its time, of interest to admirers of its veteran cast.
