Manikam drives an auto-rickshaw in Madras and lives quietly with his mother, brother and sisters, swallowing humiliations from local thugs without lifting a hand. When the thugs go too far, his family glimpses a different man, and slowly the story of who he was in Bombay comes out: the friend of a murdered man, the enemy of the gangster Mark Antony, and a figure called Manik Baashha. Baashha is one of Rajinikanth's most celebrated films, a template for the "quiet man with a dangerous past" story, and its dialogue "Naan oru thadava sonna, nooru thadava sonna maadhiri" became one of the most quoted lines in Tamil cinema. Raghuvaran's Mark Antony is a classic villain.
