Avtar works as a mechanic for a rich man and devotes his life to his wife Radha and their two sons, sacrificing his own comfort for their education and future. After an accident leaves him unable to work, the sons he raised grow selfish and cold, and the old couple are humiliated and pushed out of their own home. With the help of a loyal servant, Avtar and Radha start again, and his skills and stubborn pride slowly build a new life. Avtaar was one of Rajesh Khanna's biggest successes of the 1980s, with Shabana Azmi as his wife. It includes the devotional song Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai Mata Ne Bulaya Hai, sung by Narendra Chanchal, still a staple of Vaishno Devi pilgrimages.
