Kolaiyuthir Kaalam (2019)

Shruthi, a deaf and mute woman raised in care, learns that she has inherited a grand country house in England from the wealthy woman who looked after her. The inheritance is worth a fortune and not everyone is happy about it. Soon after she arrives at the isolated estate, a masked intruder starts stalking her through its corridors and grounds, and with no voice to call for help she has to rely on her eyes, her nerve and her knowledge of the house to survive the night. Most of the film plays out as a tight cat-and-mouse thriller. Director Chakri Toleti shot it in the United Kingdom and made a parallel Hindi version, Khamoshi (2019), with Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva. The Tamil version, with Nayanthara in the lead, had a delayed release after a dispute over its title.
