Ajay, a successful psychiatrist, is holidaying on a cruise with his friends when he meets Piya, a waitress on board, and sets out to win her despite her refusals. They marry and build a happy life, until Piya starts forgetting things: names, places, then far more. She is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, and Ajay, who has spent his career treating other people's minds, must learn to care for the woman he loves as she slips away from him. The story is framed by an older Ajay telling it to a young couple. U Me Aur Hum was Ajay Devgn's first film as director, made with his wife Kajol in the lead, and Vishal Bhardwaj composed the music.
