Majaz - Ae Gham-e-Dil Kya Karun (2017)

Majaz Lakhnawi was one of the most loved Urdu poets of the 1930s and 1940s, a progressive, romantic voice whose verses were recited across colleges and whose song "Ae Gham-e-Dil Kya Karun" remains famous. He wrote the anthem of Aligarh Muslim University, struggled with heartbreak and alcohol, and died young in 1955. This 2017 biographical film, with Priyanshu Chatterjee as the poet and Neelima Azeem in support, traces his life, his poetry and the circles of Lucknow and Aligarh in which he moved. It is a small, earnest film for lovers of Urdu poetry; Majaz was also the maternal uncle of lyricist Javed Akhtar.
