Simhadri and Gangotri have been inseparable since they were children, but she is the daughter of a powerful, short-tempered landlord with political ambitions, played by Prakash Raj, while he is the son of a man who works for the family. As they grow up their friendship turns into love, and her father's fury forces them to stand their ground. Gangotri marked Allu Arjun's debut in a leading role, after a childhood appearance years earlier, and it was the 100th film of veteran director K. Raghavendra Rao. It was co-produced by Arjun's father Allu Aravind, and M. M. Keeravani's songs, many set against river and pilgrimage backdrops, were very popular. The film was a hit and launched one of the biggest careers in Telugu cinema.
