Badi Maa (1945)

Badi Maa ("elder mother") is a 1945 family drama made by Master Vinayak, starring the singer-actress Noor Jehan, then one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema. It centres on a woman's devotion to the family she raises and the sacrifices that devotion demands, set against the background of the Second World War. The young Lata Mangeshkar appeared in a small role and sang in the film, during the years when Master Vinayak, a family friend, was supporting her after her father's death. Noor Jehan also sang her own songs, a few years before she moved to Pakistan after Partition.
