Krishna and Janaki fall in love, but their families have been at odds for years and will not hear of a match. Instead of eloping, the pair decide to win their elders round: Krishna gets himself into Janaki's home under a false identity and sets about charming her family, while she does the same with his, leading to comic near-misses and plenty of songs. Poovellam Kettuppar is a light-hearted romantic comedy directed by Vasanth and was the first film to pair Suriya and Jyothika, who later married. Yuvan Shankar Raja, then still early in his career, composed songs that became popular, and the film helped establish Suriya as a romantic lead.
