Santoshimata Vratha Mahatyam (1983)

Santoshimata Vratha Mahatyam is a Telugu devotional film about the power of the Friday vrat kept in honour of the goddess Santoshi Mata. A pious woman faces cruelty from her in-laws and long separation from her husband, but holds on to her devotion, and the goddess intervenes to set things right. It was directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao, one of Telugu cinema's most respected makers of mythological films, with K. R. Vijaya, who often played goddesses on screen. It is known in Hindi as Mahima Santoshi Mata Ki.
