Akbar Ali Khan is the most powerful gangster in Mangalore, a man who has built an empire on fear and loyalty. When a younger gang starts moving into his territory with a ruthlessness of its own, the old order is shaken, and Akbar's personal life becomes the weak point his enemies target. Gangster reunited Mammootty with director Aashiq Abu after Daddy Cool, and presents him in a stylish, brooding look as an ageing don. The film uses the coastal city of Mangalore as its backdrop and goes for a slick, moody treatment of the underworld rather than conventional mass heroics.
