Selvam is a police officer assigned to monitor tapped phones, and he quietly uses the secrets he overhears to make money on the side. Balki is a smooth, charming man who uses social media to befriend married women and then blackmails them. When Selvam discovers that Balki has set his sights on his wife Agal, the two men, each a different kind of thief, are locked in a battle of surveillance, manipulation and nerve. Thiruttu Payale 2 ('thief 2') is a follow-up in theme to Susi Ganeshan's 2006 hit Thiruttu Payale, built around privacy and the dark side of the internet. Prasanna's smooth villainy was widely praised, and Vidyasagar composed the music.
