Muddula Mavayya (1989)

Muddula Mavayya ('beloved maternal uncle') is a 1989 Telugu family drama directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Vijayashanti. Balakrishna plays a village man whose whole life revolves around his younger sister, whom he has brought up himself, and when her marriage brings her suffering, his fierce protectiveness turns into confrontation with those who wronged her. The film's mix of brother-sister sentiment, rural setting and action made it one of Balakrishna's biggest hits of the late 1980s, and it remains a favourite with family audiences in Andhra Pradesh. Balakrishna and Vijayashanti were among the most successful Telugu screen pairs of the period.
