Kho Kho (2021)

Maria Francis was once a promising kho kho player whose career ended too soon. When she takes a job as physical education teacher at a girls' school on a remote island in Kerala, she finds a staff that does not care about sport and students with no ambitions beyond the island. She decides to build a kho kho team, persuading reluctant girls and suspicious parents, and pushing them towards competitions far beyond their village. Kho Kho is one of the few Indian films built around the traditional sport of kho kho, and it relies on real physical play and a young, mostly new cast. Rajisha Vijayan leads the film, and Mamitha Baiju's performance as one of the gifted players brought her wide attention before her later hit Premalu.
